Who makes a quality screen door?

I had a screened in porch built and they installed an aluminum and glass storm door that opens OVER the stairs. Plus it's hinged on the wrong side. I want to replace it with a screen door that swings inward. Standard size 36x80.

Should be easy.

The reviews of screen doors from Lowe's and Home Depot are horrid. New doors out of square, they sag, there's wood inside the 100% vinyl door that rots out. I don't need those kinds of headaches.

Doesn't anyone make a quality door? I just want white- don't care if it's painted wood, vinyl or aluminum.

Most of those remarks are due to poor installation. Vinyl doesn't "rot" out. Most storm doors open to the outside. Otherwise they would collide with the home's door. "Screen" doors can be mounted any way you want them. Do you need the glass?

Don't need the glass, that why I'm ditching the storm door. The cheap vinyl doors on Home Depot/lowes have an untreated wood core. There's pics on the reviews of folks to took them apart.

I found PCA doors- they seem like the level of door I want. I reached out to a local dealer to get a price.

If you are going with strictly a "slammer" screen door, I would absolutely NOT go with PVC. They get hot and distort terribly. A good wooden screen door with solid construction ( bottom balusters for instance) and a turnbuckle will be your best bet. No hinges included, so you can mount it any way you like.

I can attest to that. Lowes screen door 6 years old. Totally rotten and swollen at the bottom from water swelling due to the cheap particle board used on the inside. Started at a seam on the outer bottom vinyl panel and in three years has totally destroyed the bottom of the door.

These are pics taken 9/24. It's of course gotten worse. I'll be changing it out this coming spring. And you can be sure that I won't be buying a replacement from the big box stores.

I expected at least 10 years before having an issue.

Have a good day.
