Hello,

I'm rubbish at all these DIY type things, so please go easy on me! I know this set-up looks bad, but I'm just trying to make the best with what I have. We moved in 9 months ago and are having a dishwasher installed. Currently the washing machine occupies the drain pipe set-up as can be seen in the attachment. I've bought a drain splitter so I could fit the waste hoses for both machines down this one pipe which you can see in the other attachment.

Firstly, I was just wondering if it'd be totally fine to cut the top part of the pipe just above the screw holes to allow more room to put the splitter in.. the current hose barely squeezes inside it from the counter top. Secondly I was wondering if this splitter would be totally fine for the job? If it sits a little loose within the main pipe is that goes to be a massive problem at all? Or what'd you recommend to make it a snug fit, or just bracket it to the wall?

Alternatively, if this all just sounds terrible.. could someone please advise the easiest and quickest method to allow the pipe to accommodate both waste hoses? Many thanks!

If your British code allows for the splitter, it's good. You can cut a couple of inches off the stand pipe to accommodate it. Is the 2" line trapped under the floor or elsewhere? Is this splitter something that came with the dishwasher?

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. Sorry, bit of a dummy on things like this, unsure what you mean by the 2" line exactly? The splitter is just something I've ordered off Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07QB1SM3Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Your stand pipe, the white one coming from the floor, should be 2" in diameter. The outlet for the splitter is 1 1/4" and is woefully too small for the drain of two machines. It may work with one machine at a time, but you have to make a pinky promise that you won't run them both at the same time. It won't handle the flow.

The pipe the drain hose enters is actually closer to about 1.5" I believe.

If all of this doesn't appear to be a good idea, what would you recommend or maybe even do yourself?

Your codes and ours are different, thus the difference in pipe size. Not sure. It may be worth the money to try it to see if it works. Nothing ventured...........

I think you might find the connector from McAlpine easier. Less than ÂŁ9 from

Wickes or Screwfix.your standpipe (the vertical waste, will probably be 40mm as UK weirdly adopted metric measurements. The McAlpine twin waste adapter will fit either 40mm or 1.5 inch spec pipe. Must be fitted to vertical pipe (like yours) as there’s a hole at the top to stop airlock.
Cut off just enough off your waste pipe to get the waste hoses on / connected .

Thanks for this.. before I saw this I managed to find the exact same fitting and it's worked very well. It's really good to have an experienced person confirm this as well, so many thanks again.
