We want to install Certainteed 8" Vinyl Board & Batten siding on the 2nd story front of our house. I haven't been able to find a contractor interested in doing the work as it's not a very big job.

In my research, this doesn't seem like it would be all that hard to do myself. I was planning on keeping the inside corners and the white top and outside corner trim in place, as well as the white trim around the windows. I know I'll need to install new house wrap before installing the vinyl. I'm not doing anything with the side walls, just the front facing ones. I just wanted to know what else I need to pay attention to when doing this.

Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated before I purchase everything and dive into this.

Thanks!

Assuming this is what you plan on installing, once you remove all the existing siding, install your Tyvek, taped and secured, the installation won't be much different than horizontal siding, as long as there is OSB backing. You'll use the same or similar frieze board on top and you may need 7/8" j channel for the bottom. So you are sure you want to put a third design on the front of the house? Horizontal vinyl, vertical RB&B, and stone?

Thanks Chandler48! That's what I figured and yes, that's exactly what we're planning on putting up. There's OSB under the existing. Definitely sure about the third design. We like the look and almost all new builds in our fast growing area for the past 6+ years have at least 3 different designs on them if not more (see attached pic). Thanks again for the info!

J channel at top and bottom, cut pieces 1/2” short. When you install leave 1/4” at top and bottom.. first nail near rthe top or the piece at the TOP of a slot to keep it from dropping down, remainder middle of slot, leave 1/16” space between nail heads and vinyl. (Don’t nail tight). be SURE panels snap in all the way. And yeah, I did this three days last week.
