I finished hanging the 1x8 pine car siding in our family room and am now thinking about what material to trim out the room in. See photo below. Specifically:

1. Wall to ceiling joint. Was thinking about a 3/4" pine cove type molding.
2. Wall to wall. Same thought as above. Not sure how to cut the 3 way intersection of wall to wall to ceiling.
3. Base. Do I even need wood base in a room like this? I'm leaning towards putting it in because I think it would look weird not having a base. First thought is a 1x3 pine board with edges sanded smooth. Maybe a larger board - 1x6?
4. Window/door casing. Again, thinking about 1x3 trim here. I was going to give it a "rustic" look by over running the horizontals 1/2-1" past the verticals instead of trying a mitered joint.

Anyone have suggestions or different ideas than above? Thanks for your ideas.

Crown Molding

We personally are excited to see this room with some nice and extremely simple crown molding. Don't be afraid to contrast the color a bit. Not sure if this pine accepts the black like your room does so well @pianolady. You seemed to have nailed a bit more contemporary room. It looks great!

Thanks for the ideas - we had considered going with a dark walnut color stain for the trim - give the room a bit more modern look. I may give it a shot.
