Shower Valve Replacement

I just replaced the leaky copper water lines in my house with pex b. I also replaced the expansion tank and filled it to my water pressure which was 60 psi. I did not replace the shower valve or the copper lines going to it. I just soldered on a pex adapter. When I turned everything on, all of the other faucets and stuff worked fine. The shower valve only puts out hot water when the handle is turned about 1/4-1/3 of the way open. If I go further, nothing comes out. The pressure and volume are low from there as well. I made sure the valve was getting hot and cold water where it should, pulled the cartridge and soaked it in vinegar and cleaned everything and the valve moves freely. I am not sure on the brand of valve but it is a pressure balancing valve. Is there anything else I can do before replacing it? Would the pressure in the expansion tank be causing this? If I do just replace the whole valve, do I need to replace with a pressure balancing valve or can I use any regular valve?

Not knowing the type of valve or all of the pex work you did - sounds like a re-pipe. I'd say you pulled your hot supply branch from the cold main. If that is not the issue, I'd remove the cartridge and or the balancing spool and flush the lines through the valve.
Then replace interior parts if the flush did not fix the issue.
