Security bar holder for door

I want to install the brackets for a security bar across my side garage door.
Would a piece of 3/4" EMT conduit or a piece of rebar be sufficient instead of a 2x4 ?
Reason is, the door trim sticks out too much for a 2x4 to fit with the brackets flush on the wall. I dont want to remove or cut the trim and I think shimming the bracket against the wall would weaken it.

Use a steel gas pipe, stronger than emt. Black pipe, or galvanized.

Yeah I looked at those but the price astronomical. Like 25 to 30 bucks for a piece.

Where are you at?

1/2 in. x 48 in. Black Steel Schedule 40 Cut Pipe - $10.92, Home Depot

The 10' sticks are only a couple bucks more.

$15.33 in California. I'm going to use a 3/4" square steel tube 4 foot. 8 bucks.

Wait a minute. In post 7 you said $25 to $30 for a piece of steel pipe, now youre saying $15. Your credibilty is shot.

25 to 30 was for a 10 foot piece. 15 was for a 3 foot piece. I need a 4 foot piece . The prices are higher in CA too.
