I've removed my old metal frame basement window down to the rough opening in the cinder block walls, and would like to install a vinyl window. I had to remove the metal frame since the top part stuck out (farther into the interior of the basement) than the other 3 sides of the frame. Otherwise, I would have considered leaving the frame in, mounting new window up to this frame.
The exterior side of the window, the bottom sill is raised up higher than the bottom of the window. I'd like to have this lower than the weep holes on the window. I could use my masonry grinding wheel attachment for my angle grinder to take down this lip, I'm sure it'd make quick work of it. However, the cinder blocks making up the bottom sill is cracking away from the next row of cinder blocks it sits on. So now I'm wondering what I should do... patch and repair the existing cinder block sill? Replace it with new cinder blocks (would have to cut them in half or thirds)? Something else?
