Plumber's grease safe with ABS plastic?

I have a drain clean out plug that I think I can tighten it a little bit more, just barely pass hand tight,
It feels the plastic threads are not too lubricated, but I don't want to force with the wrench and risk cracking the stucco it is embedded in.

anyway, would a little plumber's grease on the threads harm the plastic?
Is the plug like a large pipe thread that it gets tighter as it seals?

Thanks, that did the trick, I was able to get the plug to go in a couple more turns with the fitting with about the same power applied, and it sits flush.

There was standing water at the threads when I took it out, the dope should take up the space and not allow this anymore.
