She said the Whirlpool washer wasn’t getting clothes clean and that she had to run 2 rinse cycles to get the soap out. We have had Whirlpool appliances for 50 years with good results but what I read lately says most brands are junk. Our son owns some kitchen and bath businesses so he bought a long time existing appliance store so he could have an appliance source. Of course, that means mom and dad get wholesale pricing, so we bought a Speed Queen washer. It is so quiet that it is hard to tell it is running. It gets things really clean. So far so good-let’s see if it will outlive me…

And maybe less clothes per load.
We bought a new washer and dryer 10 ? yrs ago. Same size as the one it replaced but it's an energy and water saver. Energy savings means it stops and rests awhile [no big deal] but water saving means it doesn't fill up enough for a full load so we have to wash more loads for the same amount of laundry.

I have a High Efficiency front load. It is totally superior to top load imo.
It allows clothes to have more room (with less wear on clothes) and less water. A great feature is the spin cycle which causes drying time to be one-third of time compared to previous top load.

The new Speed Queen is not Energy Star certified. To me, that is a plus. Our washer in FL is certified and it uses so little water that its performance suffers. Our municipal water comes from Lake Ontario which is over 300,000,000 acres up to 800 feet deep. There is no shortage of water and it is so cheap that they only bother to send a paltry bill every 3 months. I don’t care if it uses more electricity and water, I want performance. The problem with many new appliances is that they push performance down to barely acceptable levels to meet government guidelines and they cheapen them to meet those guidelines cost effectively. As for front loaders, many have long cycle times. Our DIL jettisoned her front loader because it took all day to do her family’s laundry. Now she has a top loader that cycles in about 30 minutes.

I had an HE front loader for a few years and hated it. It didn't use enough water to effectively clean the clothes. The one thing it did do well was the spin cycle. I hated that the clothes never smelled fresh so I got rid of it and bought a Speed Queen top loader. Like Old Thomas mentioned, it is NOT Energy Star certified, and that is one of the reasons I bought it. I can fill it up with water and my clothes smell fresh and clean again. It's been trouble free since I bought it in 2017.

Febreeze laundry additive is an awesome product but expensive. I add about 1/4 cup to each load. Especially good for clothes that might smell musty or have body odor before washing.
I also add a tablespoon of Oxiclean powder.
Laundry detergent is liquid Tide or liquid Oxiclean.
After washing, my laundry smells fresh and awesome from my HE front load washer.

We purchased a new washer a few years back and I regret it. The energy stuff I guess will save you money, but it takes so long to wash clothes. And it tells you what the settings are going to be, you don't tell it. (with the exception of a few things) I should have gotten the old one fixed. If this one goes, I will buy a 20 year old one to replace it.

We have a Speed Queen TC5 less than 5 years old (which is the warranty). Repair tech is coming out this week to replace the control board. The washer beeps randomly when not running and this is a known issue with the TC5's. The tech also let me know that another issue is with the bottom tub seal leaking. His shop no longer pushes Speed Queens because they were losing money on the warranty calls. They now push LG's, I suppose until they have a problem.
We like the TC5, but if we do a deep fill and add too many clothes it leaks. However, this is because of user error. Speed Queen advises not to load clothes past the third hole from the top of the tub. This seems to fix the issue.
YMMV.

Can you rinse/wash your face with handful of water?
All of this water safe washer and dishwasher appliances are designed to use less water + adding strong soaps and needs more water.
If this is powder or liquid just use less or control the quantity of it and add one or two more rinse cycles.
