What about the theory that if you caulk the soffit/fascia if water gets in there it can't escape. Of course with a new roof I don't expect any water on my soffit.

It is wood. I am going to caulk it.

What material is the soffit? If it is wood, I would caulk the joint. If its vinyl or aluminum I wouldnt. The reason being that vinyl and aluminum need to move with the weather, where as the wood shouldnt be moving much if at all.

When you cut your tube, cut off the smallest amount possible and shave the tip til you get the size you want. If you cut off too much itll be a mess.
