We're owner builder (probably in hindsight should not have chosen this path). Never again!!!
Building a house on a slopy land. So far we have done
1. further dig the area next the retaining wall footing such that the surroudning levels become lower than the retaining wall footing (some surounding areas are exposed rocks so need to break the rocks)
2. overlay the existing retaining wall footing with a thin layer of concrete such that it creates a proper sloping to allow proper water flow down to the street. because there are certain areas of retaing wall footing with collection of water after rain because the footing is not leveled properly at the time of pouring.
Question for us is (as we do not have much prior experience with building house on a slopy land)
a: do we pour the concrete slab first and followed by the suggested solution above
OR
b: we should finish the suggested solution (1 & 2) before pouring the concrete slab.
Any share of experience, verification, commentary that put us in the right direction will be much appreciated.
Building a house on a slopy land. So far we have done
- cut and fill to make a level ground
- poured retaining wall concrete footing
- installed retaining walls.
- digged footings ready for the concrete slab (slab not poured yet)
- land sloped downwards higher from the back towards the street.
- land has rocks (sandstone) bedding underneath the soil/dirt.
- after installing the retaining wall (& core filled), we realised the levels next to the retaining wall conccrete footing are in fact higher than the concrete footings itself (an oversight from us). This creates water backflow issue where the retaining wall footing should have been higher to allow water flow towards the street.
