In an effort to get this post noticed I started a new one.

As far as the kitchen floor, the new contractor said the guy that does his tile floor installs does most of them by wet bedding and placing the tile on that rather that Schluter or backer board.

He told me advantages of wet bedding is the floor would be completely level and would help with the large format tiles. Also, would make it easier when installing base cabinets, because shimming of the cabinets most likely would not be needed.

My question is, has anyone here done or had a floor wetbedded? and on average, is wetbedding more expensive than other tile install methods?

I'll probably be getting the quote next week after he speaks to his tiler installer.

Thanks

yeah, he said that. Said the person doing his tile installs has always done it that way.
He mentioned that it raises the floor slightly, but not sure how much since putting down hardibacker board also has a thickness.

I've done Google searches and I can't seem to find if there is a price difference either direction.

thanks :)
I first mentioned Schluter, and that was when he came up with the mortar bed. He said he is also going to ask the installer about Schluter to find out his opinion. The guy is local, about 10 minutes away, but I wonder if some of the homes he does are 100+ years old and maybe some of their floors need to be leveled more.
Quotes I got last year from 3 tile stores both said $10,000 +/- I forget what tile I was thinking back then, so cost might have been a little more. None of those stores have the recent wood look porcelain tile I want now
