I have a Renolgy 50 watt panel installed 5 years ago and want to add another 50 watts. I assume it is not putting out like it used to. If I get a new one and run both panels together, will the new one drop power to the level of the old one?
I'm thinking along the lines of how one weak battery can weaken a whole chain.

You ask about the production of energy with 2 panels. Then right turn into battery levels. They are different things.

50 watts is almost not worth repairing or replacing.
I played around with 3-100 watt panels and quickly figured out there was no way to get much usable power even in Arizona.

Your 100% correct. The combined voltage will be something less than the new panel. Then all of the wiring comes into play.

Of course. The question is, how much less. Can you elaborate with some numbers?

edit: How much less than the simple average of the two standing alone, side by side? Will the new panel drop to the level of the old?

What are the voltage outputs of the panels? So many factors, is one panel shaded at all? What is the difference in voltage from old to new?

Perhaps with your knowledge and the information I provided you could make some assumptions. I haven't bought the second one yet.

I do not make assumptions when it comes to my trade, electrical. I take measurements, and then make decisions based on the readings taken. For the last 50 years this has served me well.

You provide very little information and want answers based on very facts.

What is the voltage of said panel? A lot depends on what the load is on the 50 watt panel?

Almost every solar panel I have seen has a chart of the production of the panel. Shows no load voltage and current and loaded/connected voltage and current. Here are two samples
