Metal Roof Pipe Flashing - Rubber Boot or Metal Flashing?

I need to hire a roofer to flash a chimney pipe on my metal roof. Should I just use the rubber boot (hi temp silicone), as is common now, or should I go with metal flashing and a roofer who knows how to cut that in right?

I had a co-worker fight with a leak caused by trying to cut in metal pipe flashing on his metal roof. I want to avoid that, but I also like metal flashing over rubber if possible.

Just use a Silicone Metal Roof Pipe Flashing....they work really well. I'm not sure what type of metal roof you have or how it was installed but one small caution to be aware of. If your stove pipe exits where the seam of two metal panels come together, you will want to seal that seam from the Metal Roof Pipe Flashing, all the way to the ridge. When water cascades down the roof, it will hit the roof pipe flashing and can sometimes shoot up in between the seams of the two metal panels and cause a leak.

Are they really? I was hoping that was the case. The silicone ones are rated up 437 degrees continuous, and the double wall insulated pipe shouldn't get near anything like that, even from a wood stove.

At Hearth.com forums they are totally bashing the rubber boots, saying they leak a lot. I am out of my expertise on this one, so I'm deferring to pros here and there and trying to figure out who to listen to, ha ha!

The pitch is 8/12. I think I could do it except that I'm deathly afraid of heights, so I'd have to have a safety harness or something.

I don't bounce off the ground anymore, I'm older now, I'll break things.
