Low profile shower curb

I want to install a low shower curb. Why is it that every "pro" uses 4"+ for a curb height? I would like to minimize the step over and use a 2 x 4 set flat on the floor. then the built up height would be 2" or so. Why not? The door has a sweep, water is not directed at the bottom. I have tile os so not worried so much about wet floor. I do not have enough drain pipe depth to allow a no curb.

I would avoid using lumber. If you want a 2" high curb, just cut down some brick to 2" minus the thickness of your tile, the thinset under the tile, and the thinset under the brick.

If you don't like that idea, just use 3 layers of 1/2" tilebacker, stacked.

Don't quote me as I'm not sure if local codes differ - but I think the minimum is 2 inches above the drain. I stayed in a condo in Florida that did not even have a curb.
