I have a Murray 22" push mower w/Tecumseh Engine. The last time I started it, the pull cord broke at the rewind mechanism. After taking off the start/rewind mechanism and replacing the cord, now I find out the spring must be broken on the rewind. Is it possible to replace the spring or just buy the complete Start/Rewind Assy. It looks like you need a press to push out the center pin. Does the whole go to pieces at that point? How easy is it to reassemble? Also, where would one purchase the spring or the complete Assy? :confused1:

It's very possible that the rewind is not broken, but rather, has spun unhindered and completely released all the tension.

Without seeing a picture of this little beast it's hard to say, with any degree of accuracy, exactly what needs to be done. It is not too difficult to rewind/retension these recoil starters, provided you know how to do it. You can probably get the parts (if needed) either online, or at a local small engine repair shop.
