Laminate Under Kitchen Cabinets

Hi,

I am doing a total reno on my kitchen and am going to install laminate flooring. I've searched online and get "yes" and "no" wrt to whether you can place the cabinets directly on the laminate floor. It is a floating floor and I do understand that the warranty would probably be void but I am not worried about that. It is a small kitchen (9' x 20'). The boards would run parallel to the 20'. Will having the cabinets directly on the flooring cause an issue with expansion?

Thanks

I did this on a previous reno of my kitchen. I thought it would be easier to install, and it was. It didn't work. The planks separated in several places over time. You can put the cabinets on one side under if you want, but if you put them under, where the cabinets sit on the flooring, it locks that part of the floor in place. If you do that in more than one place, the planks will most likely separate due to the expansion and contraction, primarily from humidity changes. It would be the same for LVP, except LVP expands and contracts due to temperature changes.

The last time I did the kitchen flooring, I added 1/2 thick boards under the cabinets, so they have a gap under the toe kick and I could slide the flooring a under the cabinets a little, but not have the cabinets sit on the flooring.
