Hello folks. Looking for suggestions. I have a Kitchenaid cooktop (model KGCS166GSS09) with a burner that will not light via the it igniter. It will light with a bbq lighter. All other burners operate as they should. roblem has been isolated to the igniter. The ceramic is cracked so instead of the spark coming out the top through the gas stream it arcs along the bottom to the base. The base (see pix below) is held in place with two torx screws. I have been unable to get them out. Here's what I've tried.
1. Twisting as hard as I think I dare without breaking the screw
2. Heating the screw and base by lighting the burner by hand
3. Rapping it sharply with a hammer and flat punch a bunch of times
4. Soaking with CRC Power Lube which is supposed to be for loosening rusted screws/bolts. I started soaking this morning will continue for a day or two along with additional tapping.
5. I checked my easy outs. None of them fit not that I'm ready for them yet.

I would appreciate any suggestions. New igniter is about 40 bucks. I can't imagine any appliance repair person/company making a house call for less than $100 plus parts. Thank you.

With the ceramic cracked, the spark will find its way to the nearest metal object, and that will be through the crack. Yep the ignitor is $40, but I don't see any way out of it.

I haven't done this, but it should work. Clean out the recess of the torx head, then use a torx bit (seated all the way in, now that the crud is removed) with an impact driver in reverse.

Or buy a torx key set (like Allen wrenches, but with torx heads) and apply slow, constant force until they come loose.

I bought a new igniter online for like $25 and swapped it out in under 10 minutes.
