Jamb meets casing... Is it necessary to have a reveal?

My house has a modern look to it, and as I am about to start trimming out doors I have recently installed, I was wondering if it is necessary to leave a reveal on the jamb where it meets the casing, i.e. have zero reveal.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!
