Hi all,

I'm looking to replace my interior and exterior doors with 3-panel craftsman style doors.

It appears that from big-box stores, I will be paying around $250 for a hollow pre-hung, and closer to $300 for a solid pre-hung. Primed, not pre-finished.

I was dealing with a local store, but they seemed to have forgotten to call me back after several visits. I don't really appreciate when places forget to do business after you've gone in a few times and it shouldn't be on me to remind them that I'm a customer. But anyways, I think this place was a tad bit cheaper, but still around $230 for a hollow pre-hung, and like $280 or something for a solid pre-hung.

I've been looking at fiberglass front doors (stained) and they are pretty nice. That's going to be an easy $1,000 in craftsman style with a minimally decorative window. With a nicer window it can be $1,500. What's causing an extra $500 is the pre-finishing, which I suppose for a front door would be worth it.

Does all these seem normal to everyone?

Exterior doors are all over the place. Went to a local building supply, quotes a door, no glass stained finish solid wood $3000.
Luckily we have a decent size supply warehouse that works with Masonite and Horner and prices are in the hundreds for the over runs/small scratch doors..picked up 2 fiberglass doors for 800 out the door

I removed all my interior hollow doors and installed solid 6 panel doors. The solid feel and sound when closing a door makes the extra expense worth it. Opposite of what Chandler does, when I was in business I seldom had a homeowner buy a door. They chose the style, etc., but I ordered it from a contractor supplier. Then I could get the size, hinging, jamb, bores, threshold and hinges that I wanted and then the supplier and I stood behind the whole job. There were no surprises or cheap products. If it is their door all you stand behind is the labor, so I get it. There were few things I disliked more than a customer call back after I installed their cheap substandard product so I stopped doing it.

Your exterior door will run a gamut of prices based on your likes and dislikes. I always have the homeowner order the door they like, have it delivered, and I install it. No questions that way.

As far as interior doors, you will be really more satisfied with solid doors than you will with hollow ones. I get the Cheyenne doors in pine here, at a salvage place for about $135, no trim, prehung. If you can find a place like that you may find 3 panel doors likewise. Shop around for deals, especially when you may be replacing a bunch of doors.
