I prefer flange flush with finished floor. Some like the flange above finished floor then if the toilet rocks on the flange that can add shims.

 

Good to know. I always though that the flange needed to sit on top of the floor. I'm not sure how thick a typical closet flange is, but the LVP is 8mm which is a bit more than 1/4".

 

 

All toilets may not be created equal so what I do is lay the toilet on its side, place a straight edge across the base and measure the depth of the recess where the seal would go. I've found a standard wax ring ( if there is a standard ) is 1" thick and a 1/4" crush on a wax ring is plenty.

 

If you forget the wax seal and use a rubber one, you will be so happy that you did, the next time you need to remove the toilet. There are more threads on here than I could count regarding wax vs rubber toilet seals.

 

Yea, i always end up pulling toilets more than expected so i might just go with rubber and call it a day. i hate cleaning up wax.
