Where does it go ? Presumably, the roll rod needs to be free to pivot, so the screw point possibly sits in a groove in the rod -- but that is just a guess because you have provided no relevant photo.

If one of those screws was available in my area it would be ACE HARDWARE . Take a screw and match the thread pitch by laying the threaded portions one on top of the other to determine if there is a perfect matched thread pitch . I have to hold them up to a back light so see a thread that fine .

 

I agree my Ace Hardware is used to me bringing in stuff and camping out in the fastener isle until I find that part I need. They just smile walk on.

I surely do appreciate having some replies to my question, yes the screw in question due to having a point in the end does tighten down into a groove on roll rod like you mentioned. Thank goodness we have a ace hardware pretty close by and like their jingle says they do offer their customers help when they need it. I still wish that the manufacturer would have put some kind of information on the tissue holder itself.

So the screw is tight on the bent rod and the bent rod is not free to pivot ?

I would have though the screw trapped the rod, but the bent rod was sill free to pivot.

But I don't have that style of paper holder.

 

I have a great tool everyone should have. It's called a Thread Inspector. It's a little loop of cable with a bunch of gauges on it. Each gauge has a male and female thread, and they're labeled. You take your nut or screw and see which gauge fits. They come in metric and standard, so get both.

 

Very few will remember the radio show 20 questions from the 1940's .

I apologize for not providing enough information in the first place, lately I've been having way too many 'senior' type moments, but that's to be expected when our body ages and at least in my case having some pretty prominent medical issues currently going on. Anyway, this morning I unfastened the toilet paper holder in question and partially disassembled it and then took another picture of the screw in question and the location of where it goes. Thanks again for all of your comments and all help that has been provided.

Im missing something. If you were able to remove the screw to take a picture ... why do you need to buy another screw? The hardware store will have set screws that will work, but the ends probably wont be pointed.

 

The image shows the toilet paper holder that's mounted in a different bathroom that still has the screw installed.

 

Ah … ok. Tape it to a piece of paper so it doesn’t get lost in your pocket, go to a real hardware store like Ace. Like i said, they might not have one with a point, but they will have set screws.

Yes, your statement is correct, thank goodness both toilet paper holders are exactly the same.

If you really need a point, could chuck the set screw in a drill, and spin it against the wheel of a pedestal grinder.

McMaster Carr probably would have a cone point set screw, but you might run up against minimum order or shipping charges, for one 10 cent set screw.

 

When my wife & I retired in 12/2018 from our full time jobs I'm proud to state that she was a plant manager and had been with her company through forty three year's of being employed with them amongst several name changes, and I retired from lowe's home improvement after working only fourteen years. Since I've always had positive luck when shopping at ace hardware that's where I'll probably go, I'm really hoping that for some reason my wife MIGHT have removed the screw in question and actually hid it somewhere, I think what concerns me the most is I can't imagine that screw loosening up by itself and then falling on the floor by itself. But rather than cause a major issue between my wife & myself I'll adhere to the 'Happy Wife Happy Wife' rule of marriage.

 

Using a set screw a Conical screw would be what to ask for .

Now that was rather funny, my wife & I have been through so much together already I don't think a missing screw would force us apart, but still I'm not going to even take that chance, by the way we've been married since 06/1971 .

 

Did you ever find the right set screw and if so, where? The rental where we are staying has the exact same holder with the same problem.

 

I think the screw in question is a metric thread type, since I don't have a tap & die set with any metric item's. I can't be positive about this though. I was planning on going to eiti ace hardware or lowe's but haven't went yet.

 

Come on Guys Home Depot has one similar for 15 bucks change the complete holder and be done with it. then get your rod and bait and go fishing..

 

Why purchase a complete new holder when all you need is just a set screw ?

Sorry that I didn't reply sooner, but since I've been having some medical issues lately I haven't been to a hardware type of store to try to obtain a replacement screw as of yet.
