Any idea what would cause igniters to keep burning out?
I have a Goodman Gmt070 04.
Last week we woke up and there was no heat. Did some investigating and research and zoned in on the igniter as possible culprit. Took it out, and lo and hehold it was burned out.
Went and got a replacement. Put new one in, furnace fires up no problem, and runs all day and evening.
Next morning, wake up, no heat again. So I take out igniter, and it is burned out again. Take it back to shop and they tell ask me if I had touched it at all or knocked it against something (apparently these things are super brittle and sensitive to oils on skin etc). Didn't think I did, but couldn't be certain. Anyway, got a new igniter. Installed new igniter, being super careful not to touch it with fingers/hands and not knock it against anything or allow any dirt to get on it.
Turn furnace on, and it fires up no problem. Runs for several days, then wake up another morning, and no heat. Go straight to igniter and pull it out.... and it's burned out again.
So, what would cause a furnace to keep burning igniters like this? These things are about $60 a pop, so not putting another one in until a know for sure what's causing the problem.
