I have a few bags of the stuff and I'm about to put in a new tub. Just thought I'd use it to stop the tub from creaking after installation. If you've never used that stuff, which mud mix would you use? I was trying to keep it lightweight and that Custom Building Prodcuts mud mix is really light. I got it at Home Depot.

jayp,
I'm not familiar with that product but as long as it dries fairly quickly and gets pretty solid you should be fine. The problem with some of the extremely lightweight concrete products is that they aren't very strong and tend to crack under stress. Also, lots of folks will say to use drywall mud but I have had to pull tubs that had been set in drywall mud for several days and it was still wet.

Here's a tip. Once you put your mortar bed down, lay a piece of plastic sheeting on top of it before you set the tub. It won't interfere with the installation, but if you ever have to remove the tub you will be glad you did it.
