I’m adding a 1/2 bathroom to a laundry room on a slab foundation. Running the new plumbing in walls and using a macerating toilet to avoid ripping up slab. I need to run water and drain lines along an exterior wall. Instead of running them on the wall I thought we might build an extra wall inside of the existing wall to keep the plumbing protected. However, the room is small so every inch makes a difference. What is the smallest piece of lumbar I could use as “studs”. Obviously no structural support needed, just hold new dry wall.
I’ll use 1.25 in or 1.5 in pvc for the drain line. Can I use 2x3 lumbar and 1/2 drywall? Is there anything small that would work? 2x2 wouldn’t be thick enough.
How do I actually frame this? Can I leave the existing drywall up and just attach the new 2x3 (or whatever we use) to the existing studs? Can I run them horizontally and they still support drywall? Seems that would be easier if possible.
Thanks for the feedback
