footwear for working on a slate roof

I was wondering if anyone out there has a particular shoe you have had success with working on slate roofs. Normally, I just use the same crosstrainer running shoes that I run with to change slate out here and there. Now I have major job to do, so I have invested in the fall arest harness with the work positioning setup. But won't do me much good unless I have shoes that will not slip. Any ideas??

I must agree with Tomstruble, I have a pair of these boots, there great. the price is no different then buying a pair of red wing work boots. I have used then often on sheathing roofs I have walked on pitches as steep as 12/12 with no problem. I think there a great investment. BOB :thumbup:

You all seem to miss the point. You never walk directly on a slate roof. Never. The options are to set up a system of a minimum of 24" wide plywood or use a ladder system with hooks that wrap the ridge or a combination. Walking on the roof puts pressure on the individual slates that can put stress cracks on every slate you step on. You won't know there's a problem immediately because the issue will develope over time. Slates will start to fail and slide down the roof.
You need to displace the pressure over as wide an area as possible to not do damage to individual slate pieces.
