Fiber Cement starter strip and house wrap details

Hi all,

I just finished resheathing an exterior wall on our house. The previous wall sheathing consisted of Masonite siding over 80's Tyvek over 1/2" blackboard. The plan is for Fiber Cement lap over Ben Obdyke HydroGap over 1/2" CDX. I noticed that the wall was set back 1/2" from the rimjoist/mudsill/exterior brick which I'm not used to seeing. I have attached a basic picture showing the wall makeup. I have two items I need to figure out:

1. I was under the impression that house wrap should not be in contact with masonry. Given the situation, where would the house wrap end at the bottom of the wall or how can it be terminated?

2. Does anybody have a good alternative to a starter strip than ripping something from scrap? Something manufactured?

I'm thinking (hoping) I might be able to kill two birds with one stone if I can find a metal/vinyl starter strip to attach to the mudsill. The bottom of the house wrap would overlap the top of the starter strip and I would have my kickout for the lap. Any thoughts/comments?

thanks in advance

Hi,

The attached pic shows what I'm imagining. The red being some metal starter strip and the blue being housewrap that terminates on top of the starter strip.

My reason for wanting this type of starter strip is two fold. First, having the house wrap laying directly on the rough finish brick and it failing due to abrasion. Second is the fact that the mudsill isn't always flush with the brick. in some cases the mudsill is actually slightly back from the brick so there would be a sharp edge on the brick that the house wrap would be laying on

thanks!

That is the way we frame here, the house wrap just stops about an inch below the sill and the siding starts 1 1/2" below the sill.
You could look at the starter strip for vinyl siding.
