Drill a hole through external wall for cable

I need to run a cable through the brick veneer external wall. I was wondering if I should drill from outside in or from inside out. From outside in I can drill in between the bricks. Drilling through the mortar is softer. But I cannot see what is behind the brick and can accidentally drill into existing wiring or something. From inside out, I can cut a small hole on the dry wall which is small enough to be covered by the cable wall plate but big enough to see and avoid drilling into any existing wiring. But I may be drilling into the brick. I think there is a wood board in between the insulation and the brick veneer. Any suggestion on which way is better ?

Drill from outside - otherwise you will "explode"/mushroom the veneer by penetrating from the inside - kinda like wood splinters on the backside of a piece of wood your drilling.

You can act like a standard cable TV installer and just grab a 3' bit and blast anywhere that seems convenient... (LOL - that's what I've seen them do).
