Open it up and check for power at the switch and then check for power after the switch with it turned on.

 

i'll give that a shot, but do you think the tripping a fuse would have done anything to the motor?

 

My dewalt switch went bad after about 3 yrs. Easy to replace. It started intermittently not starting, then one day it was dead.

My Dewalt 12" double compound saw suddenly stopped working after a couple of years. It turned out that one of the crimp connectors in the switch let go. No shorting or blown breakers, but if something similar happened and wires touched, it could. I'd check in the switch housing.

 

Any kind of reset button?

Dead short somewhere. Most likely in the plug & cord or in the saws switch/internal wires in the handle.
There is a recall on the saw but not power related LOOK HERE

You always check the cord and switch first, they are not only the cheap and easy to fix but it is a little silly going deep into checking the motor if you don't know power is getting to the motor.

 

You would have to run the saw many many hours to wear out the brushes. But they are easy to change too. You never said what model number.

 

interesting, i used it for 4 months last year and not again until now. almost new condition so that's why this is so strange. I make 2 cuts, trip a breaker, and now it won't work?? its the DWS779 miter saw.

 

Sounds to me like the switch went south. I'd start there.
There's more to a miter saw switch than simple on off, as it engages the brake when released.

Unless you cut the cord. ;^)
(More likely on a handheld saw than a stationary one.)

 

ha! well, there's always that possibility but no, didn't cut the cord. I have a feeling it's the switch.

warranty is over, but it looks like the switch is a simple buy and easy to swap out. gonna try that first.

 

You ordered stuff without opening the case or pulling the old brushes???

 

For testing purposes can't the switch be removed , wire it to have continual power and use a power strip or outlet to determine if the saw will run .
