I reviewed many old posts concerning cultured marble cleaning/polishing, but nothing really useful. Perhaps there are more up to date experience with cleaning/restoring cultured marble vanity tops.
I'm looking for any process, and in particular products that can restore a cultured marble vanity top to a white and shiny surface. I know about sanding with successive grit, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, then polishing and final buff with Gel Gloss (or RV Gel Gloss). This worked fine on one vanity that had minor scratches, but no yellowing or staining. On a second cultured marble vanity the top is older, and used heavily, so it has a duller, scratched finish on the surface in some spots, and some yellowing on the backsplash. I will be sanding and polishing the surface and bowl areas, and I'm pretty sure it will remove the minor scratches, and worn ares, and make them shiny again.
What I am wondering about is the yellowing; does anyone know of a process/product that can remove the yellowing, before buffing, or on areas that are still shiny, no buffing? I've read that diluted bleach or hydrogen peroxide will bleach these areas white, but I've also read other places to not use bleach or hydrogen peroxide on cultured marble. The cause of the yellowing seems to be aging, since it occurs mostly on the backsplash, and remains shiny.
The two photos actually show the condition is worse than it really is, but also the yellowing of the backsplash, sans the stain behind the faucet, appears whiter than it really is; it has yellowed slightly.
