Hello all, when I bought my house a few years ago, the owners before me, had a brand new HVAC system installed, that did both the upstairs and basement. Well the basement has a drop ceiling and part of it was removed to account for the HVAC run. Is it possible to drop the ceiling in that section to cover it up and how hard would it be? I'll attach a couple photos to give you a better idea.

Does the duct have insulation inside the duct? If not insulating will help.
Sure you can box around the duct, what is your ceiling height under the duct?
