How much will it cost to dig a basement with 10ft ceilings? Its only going to be about 500-800 sf and i just want a cut out stair entry on the side, no garage doors or drive up.

is there already a house at this site? if so that'd get a bit expensive.. is the grade level or is one end lower then the others?

 

When I lived in West Tennessee I rented a backhoe and dug one for a walk out, which was a little larger than 800 sq ft, for $750 plus diesel, took about a week.

 

Call some contractors in your area and ask them.

 

There is a reason most houses don't have basements in TN... red clay! Not to assume your land is, however majority of TN is solid with the stuff.

 

Not trying to be a smart butt :no: I don't know of anywhere in Tennessee where there is red clay, not saying there isn't, there is plenty south of us though.

 

It could just be the cost of a good shovel and the cost of as many ham sandwiches as you need to get you through the digging.

Helluva lot of rock in Tennessee as I remember.

 

Most of Tennessee is rocky as the dickens until you get within 75 or so miles from the Mississippi River then it is sandy dirt.
