Chirping even after smoke alarm disconnected

A smoke alarm in our house was chirping. It was an old, hard wired model (Entronic brand, no manuals online that I could find). I unplugged the plastic connector (two wires) and cut the third (green) wire to the unit, removing it from the ceiling. But the chirping continues, about once a minute. It seems to come from the ceiling near where the smoke detector had been attached. I've bought and installed a new, battery operated detector. But how can I stop the chirping from the old, removed one????
I can send photos of old detector and box in ceiling with old wiring, if that would be helpful.
Any help is most appreciated.

Get in the attic, and search for another battery operated device up there.

There was probably nothing wrong with the old hard wired one, you might have not known about the one in the attic.

As a side note the other chirper will quieten, after the battery is fully drained, if you can wait long enough.:devil3:

Are you over sixty? A lot of older people have lost their sense of directional hearing... myself included (about 20 years ago). Is it possible that you have another smoke detector somewhere near that is making that chirp? Those high pitched tones are a challenge for directionally impaired ears... mine have fooled me a time or two with the SD's I have installed (3 on the same floor about 20' apart).

I wonder if we could get the site operator to close old threads for comment?

They should have a pop-up when you click on Post reply that says "Do you really want to comment on a x year old thread?". Give them one last chance to change their mind.
