Charging my HVAC.

Hi, I am new to this and like to know how I can charge my HVAC system. My AC coil freeze up when I lower my AC temp to 74. I found out that I need to recharge my AC.
I have the guage and R22 to charge my system. I hockup the low and high pressure, leak the air from the pipe, connect the third hose to the R22.
I see the lower pressure PSI is about 48 and high side is about 200. Base on the chart low pressure needs to be about 60.
I made sure all the ice were melted before I charge the system to have better pressure reading before I charge the system. I was able to charge the system for about 1 lbs after trying about 10 minutes. I know it was about 1 lbs coz I weight it before and after. BTW: I was told I should charge the freon upright so I did charge my system upright.

I AC is still not fully charge coz the low side pressure still around 50 and I can still see the ice forming when I lower the temp.

How can I make my HVAC take freon charge? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Your system may not be low on charge.

Could be a dirty coil, air filter, or dirty blower wheel.
Along with several other possible causes for those pressure readings.

Most of the time when you are running 55lbs pressure on the big pipe(suction) you are going to freeze the coil due to the temperature.

You should maintain a 40 deg evaporator.

Check all the items referenced in the last post, could be something else causing low pressure.

You need to use subcool/superheat numbers to charge systems. I suggest you Google subcool/superheat to get an understanding as to what they mean and how they are measured. Also r22@50psi = 26 deg, no wonder your ecoil is freezing up.

Not by the feds it wouldn't.

Or any trade school would be guilty. Since they teach all of this long before any student ever takes the EPA test.
