I guess we have good water, as I can't tell the difference between tap water and the filtered water. I would like to put a dummy filter on to avoid buying them.
It is a Frigidaire EPTWFU01.
There is no obvious way to open the filter to get the guts out, but I can drill into the end that goes in first and gut it that way. Any advice would be appreciated.

Our Samsung doesn't know if the filter is in or not. Take the filter out and it bypasses itself. I have a two stage water filtration system on the house. I got the filter "warning" and replaced the expen$ive filter. Out of curiosity, I took the old filter to the shop and cut it across with a band saw. It was perfectly clean. So now, I just reset the filter warning and don't worry about it.

I think I paid $10 per filter for my knockoffs. They seem to remove the "city taste" from the water just as effectively as the original Samsung filter. To bypass, it's probably easiest to cut and gut. My filter is required to complete the water circuit. The fridge automatically shuts off supply (mechanically), but doesn't bypass.

Yeah, if the filters aren't doing anything, they shouldn't be getting clogged up, so just leave the same filter in and reset the meter. If you can't just reset the light, remove and reinsert the filter.

I buy the coconut-carbon 3rd party filters for 1/4 the price of the OEM, and they're a huge improvement over unfiltered water.

I've heard of this. I think it was a big deal in the legal world. I've never had a problem with it. I think Keurig was putting QR codes on their cups for a while so the machine would only accept their cups.

My 2022 Samsung fridge, 2020 Cannon printer had no problem with knockoffs.
