I have a bi-level home which is only 9 years old and has a linoleum kitchen floor upstairs. The linoleum is in good shape its just do for a change. I plan on using 20 inch plus ceramic tiles (so big tiles, not sure if this matters). Under the floor would be just plywood, so if I can't lay the tile on the linoleum, would I have to lay down cement board down? The floor is level and smooth so there is no worry of things being uneven or having dips. The issues are raising the floor to much in comparison to the adjacent room, and of course to see if I can save a little money without effecting the outcome of the job. I know the right way is to take it out and lay a cement board down, just curious if anyone has had any success doing it this way.
Thanks so much.
