On my garage floor I have mostly narrow cracks in the concrete floor. I was planning to fill those with Sika Flex crack filler. But one crack is quite large in one section and goes about 2" wide in one spot. Sika Flex says it should only be used on cracks that are max 1" wide. So what's the best way to fill this wide crack?

I've seen elsewhere that some people use Slab sealant for large cracks up to 3" wide, but how long does that last? It seems to get mixed reviews.

Any advice is appreciated!

I would suggest Quikrete Vinyl Concrete Patcher.

Chisel the crack with a hammer and masonry chisel to widen the base of the crack and to dislodge any loose material from the old concrete.

Remove all debris from the crack, using a wire brush.

Remove all debris from the crack with a shop vac or a brush. Be sure all dust and grit is removed from the crack.

Mix the concrete patching compound according to the manufacturer's directions.

Trowel the compound into the crack. Stab the trowel into the compound. This removes air pockets and helps the patching material to get deep into the crack. Fill the crack up to the surrounding concrete surface stabbing it frequently.

Smooth the surface of the patch with the trowel, feathering the compound into the surrounding concrete.

Let the compound cure as directed.

Thanks for the recommendation and great tips! I watched some videos and read reviews on the vinyl patch compound and it seems like it'll work well. However, in Quickrete's video, they say don't apply it more than 1/4" thick at a time. They say to build it up over several layers if you need to go more than 1/4". Do you think that is important to do, or does it just take longer to dry if I put it on thicker?
Also, I have other thinner cracks and chips in our garage floor. Can I fill all those with this, or am I better off using a flexible crack filler, like Sika Flex?

Here are the instructions from the Quckrete Vinyl Concrete Patcher Product No. 1133 Data Sheet.

INSTALLATION

SURFACE PREPARATION
Remove loose particles and foreign matter and sweep areas to be patched. Smooth surfaces must be roughened. Thoroughly wash the areas to be patched with water or with QUIKRETE® Concrete and Asphalt Cleaner (#8601). Rinse thoroughly, and then remove any standing water.

MIXING
Mix approximately 7 parts of QUIKRETE® Vinyl Concrete Patcher to 1 part clean water by volume. Gradually stir in water. Adjust water or powder amount as necessary to achieve a thick, workable blend. Caution - Too much water will produce a weaker product. Mix only that amount of Vinyl Concrete Patcher that can be applied in 30 minutes.

APPLICATION
• Apply only when the temperature of the surface is above 40 degrees F (4 degrees C) for 24 hours
• Dampen area to be patched with clean water but do not leave puddles
• Apply with a steel trowel
• Work some of the material into the surface first, then over fill the depression and strike off with a trowel until the patch is even with the surrounding area
• Keep trowel clean to prevent sticking
• After application, clean tools immediately with water

CURING
Under hot, dry or windy conditions, keep the patch moist for 24 hours by covering with polyethylene film. Product will support foot traffic in 1 day. Allow 3 days for wheeled traffic.

I tend to go with the instructions on the package.

Thanks, yeah that is helpful. Want to give the vinyl patch a try, but I see in the instructions that it has to be 40 degrees or higher for 24 hours after applying it. I'm in Minnesota, so that won't happen maybe until spring, unless we get a heat wave in the next few weeks.

did this exact item yesterday,,, sawed crack on both sides to a fairly uniform width, installed tapcons on 1 side, & placed 1/2" isolation jnt mtl wrapped in wax paper against the other side,,, then placed conc to the 4" depth & scored jnts 12" apart,,, stripped out jnt mtl today & sealed using 100% silicone + closed cellbacker rod,,, whether or not you want a permanent repair's your choice
