Best time of year to buy construction materials?

Next fall I would like to undertake a couple of building projects that need 2x4, 2x6 and cinderblocks. Is there a time of the year when these things are traditionally cheaper than other times of the year?

I'm not sure there is a great time of year anymore. I've been building for a year and delayed on and off so I have priced throughout the year. I ordered framing lumber through the local sawmills. There was a 2000 dollar price difference on the basic lumber. However we have a local Mennonite building supply and the lumber and decking for loft was ordered through them. The price for rough cut when you get any length to it sky rockets at the sawmills. Then in these times we are in the prices just fluctuate way to much. And those fluctuations seem to favor the going up side. We got the home loan last year and we are already 20 percent more than the loan to finish. It's crazy! As far as cinder blocks I plan on getting some next week and haven't noticed a difference at any place really there are relatively cheap still and should be just about anywhere but I've noticed this time of year right before the freeze here in Colorado they are on sale alot. One more opinion is that I've noticed lately our local building supplies have been cheaper on alot of things than the big chains and we have bought there more. And if there is a slight difference we are a 100 miles away from lowes and home depot so fuel makes up your mind pretty quick.

Jayman has good points....^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^100%^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

But, if you have the luxury of time and storage,,,, just keep your eyes open for deals that occur as places get overstocked, or keep an eye on craigslist as indivuduals often just want to liquidate excess materials.
