My two bathroom exhaust fans vent through an "under-eave vent" (sample image below). The two ducts come right to the wire mesh screen, and there is some evidence of mold, but not a lot. Is there an easy fix? I don't want to put them through the roof -- seems like a lot of work (for me to do DIY), and I might do that when I get a new roof in about five years. There is no gable. I am in Oregon, where relative humidity is high year-round, but temps don't go below freezing all that often.
I saw a retrofit vent that directs air out and around the eave, but they are for soffit vents pointing downward. My eaves have no soffit, and the vent screen is facing outward, not downward. One handyman I talked to said just redirect the vent to the attic vent (which opens upward and has a temperature-controlled fan), but I don't see anyone else online recommending that. I wonder if the humidity might damage the attic fan in the long run. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
