I am getting ready to finish off my basement ceiling with drywall. Where the ceiling meets the wall, there is no joist directly above the end of the ceiling portion of the drywall. The closest joist away from the wall is roughly 14". I am just wondering what the simplest method would be to frame something to support the end edges of the ceiling board? Should I just frame some 2 x 4 perpendicular to the joist? The problem I run into on one side is there is wiring stapled to the inner joist above the wall and this would make attaching the support difficult...

Typically you nail scraps of 2x4 to the top plate, overhanging into the room about 1-1/2”. Youbwill probably need to unstaple the wiring.
