They certainly cost less than the Wirsbo tool I own. Probably void the warranty if you use them. If there are any issues, likely would be the amount of expansion, which is probably carefully calibrated in the official tool. I got mine used, still cost several hundred dollars, but probably saved me several thousand dollars when I replaced my pipe.

Great point concerning the ID of copper vs PEX.

The ID of copper is larger than PEX, so I imagine the expansion by the copper tool would be slightly larger than by the Wirsbo tool.

Given that PEX-A is marketed as being more flexible, resistant to bursting due from a freeze, and that PEX-A has 'shape memory' wants to return to it's original shape, I don't think that slightly larger expansion will cause a problem.

Ayuh,.... When I discovered plumbin' with pex 7 or 8 years ago, it took me no time to learn to pick a system, then buy the Proper Tools for worry free installations,....

I use the ssteel crimp rings,...
I had a couple of tools used for crimp rings in automotive applications, so I figured, why buy the $100.+ proper tool,.....
After a few connections in my 1st use of the stuff, that I couldn't stop the leaks,....
I went, 'n bought the proper tool,....

No leaks since,....
