Paint it the same colour as the wall and put some furniture in front of it.

 

I was thinking htat but it would have be something specifically designed for that purpose... anything too big would block the pathway to the bed. This part of the room is only 97 inches wide. I have a queen size bed going in there (60 inches or so), so there is only 2-3 feet of space there.

 

Just box it out, floor to ceiling, it'll just look like a column along the wall that wouldn't stand out in the least.

 

That's a great idea, maybe even a wood column (i have a lot of wood in the home). Thanks!

edit: or better yet, a log column! cant imagine the precise measurements i would need to do that though.

 

Yeah, I would box it out. Use some steel L-track and drywall to build it so you can keep it small as possible as opposed to wood framing. It will be in the steel stud section at HD or lowes, etc.

Drywall looks life so far just needs to be skimmed out a bit more.

 

Thanks for the tip. I just started taping it up, so i need a few more coats before I'm done. The taping and floating is much more work than I anticipated.

 

Yes, it can be. It's easier to keep putting thin coats on. Sanding sucks. Just scrape off the high spots (usually just the lines) and keep coating. Butt joints should be a couple feet wide. Recessed joins are about 16" wide

You don't need to sand between coats. Just scrape off the high spots.In the pic it looks like you've been doing lots of sanding. Wait until after the final coat unless it's something really bad.

 

i'd build a column and stop it at the top of the pipe. get creative and add some shelves for books or nic nacs or something
