We have a pressure treated wood deck around our pool. It is about 6 years old. We first finished the deck with a semi-solid stain two years after install. Every year since we have needed to restain the deck due to peeling. We have sanded and washed before restaining it each time. We follow all guidelines the paint store give us and every time we have the same results. The product we are using is Sherwin Williams Super Deck IR reflective. This is what they recommended and said it would last at least three years on a wooden deck that surrounds a pool and has water on it regularly.

What is the best stain/paint to use on a wood deck around a pool? Is there a marine grade paint that is durable? Is there a dock stain that won’t peel every year? I could use tips to help prevent us from having to redo this deck every year!

Thanks in advance!

I just did mine last year using semi-solid stain from Armstrong-Clark. Getting ready to re-open the pool and the deck still looks good. The wood was very old pressure-treated (probably 15-years old?)
I took a random orbit floor sander to it after thoroughly pressure washing it.

I read a lot of reviews and kept hearing/reading good things about Armstrong-Clark and I’m glad I went with it.

I had to order it from an online store (the sealer store, I think?)
