Hey guys, I’m wiring a new Orbit thermostat (Model 83521) and I’ve run into an issue with the wiring. It is telling me to “contact a HVAC tech for further assistance”.

Looking at the image of the thermostat and the wiring diagram, what should my course of action be? The black and orange wire to the upper left were not wired in the previous thermostat that I removed.

Thanks!

What kind of heating system do you have? heatpump with aux heat? two stage furnace?

i see w2 there.

you'll likely need a stat that can do multistage.

do you have aux heat in the air handler?

The higher retail stats from honeywell all support heatpump with aux heat. This is what i would use , rth8xxx, rth7xxx, rth9xxx and up.

What terminal was the orange connected to, labelled W1 and what was the model of the old stat. that may be reversing valve.
