You know what happens when people assume... These are heavy and behind some clutter, and I assumed the whole glass is like the one side. But the other side looks like smooth, normal glass. When looking at the smooth side, you can see the texturing, but it's all from the other side. The other side, you can feel the texturing.
The texture part is apparently a fairly thin layer of some sort. It extends under the metal border frame.
Thanks, everyone. And thanks for the interesting links, SPS-1. My curiosity is satisfied, though I took more pictures in case someone else's wasn't. These are the best pics I can do without manhandling the thing outside to more sunlight, and even then maybe they wouldn't be any better.
One pic is from the other, smooth side. It's hard to tell from the picture it's smooth and looks normal, but it is. Halloween is coming up, so I put a scary shadowy hand in that picture.
