Need to replace around 38' of rotten fascia in my detached garage and I was thinking that 1x6 dimensional lumber, primed and painted would do. Then I read that square edge lumber is more appropriate and cedar or redwood is better. Is there a right way to do it?

1x6 dimensional lumber is likely to be full of knots, it would be my last choice.
