The dimmer gets wired the same as a three way.

Is this new wiring or existing?

 

This is new wiring. What is the best way to wire it with 2, 3-way switches (1 dimmer, 1 3-way regular switch) and 4 can lights? Use a 14-3 to jump from one switch to the other?

 

If the circuit is 15 amps you can use #14.

The easiest way is power to S1 with xx-2, between S1 and S2 with xx-3, and then xx-2 to the first light. Incoming and outgoing hots on the black screws, black and red from xx-3 cables as travelers. All whites to whites.

 

Im still unsure how to wire this with a 12-3 wire to the switches? What is to be connected to where and which to the lights? The lights are connected with regular 12-2 wire.

 

Is power being brought into the dimmer location, switch location or one of the light locations?

 

Power is being brought to the dimmer switch location. I then would like to use 12-3 wire to connect the switches. Do I need to run a 12-2 wire from the last light to the regular 3-way switch?

 

here is one way..I only showed 2 lights but you get the idea. The code police may say something because there is no neutral at the rightmost 3-way switch.

 

here is another way. The difference from the above diagram is that the switched power is leaving the rightmost 3-way switch below and in the diagram above, the switched power is leaving the leftmost switch

 

Thank you. I prefer the power coming to the first switch (dimmer) then out to to the second 3-way switch. I can see it more like what I have with the wires laid out.

dont know if you are planning on daisy-chaining all 4 lites together
or having 4 separate feeds
or two feeds like below

 

My layout has the 4 lights connected in line, power coming to the first switch and then out to the first light. Connect all white wires and run the black to these second 3-way switch and connect the red to both switches.

Makes no sense. If constant power is being brought to the 1st 3-way switch, then the 2nd 3-way switch is providing the switched power to the lights

 

You either have switched power leaving the 1st 3-way location or switched power leaving the 2nd 3-way location

 

 

try this..basically the same as in post #8. ode police may have an issue that there is no neutral at the far right switch

 

I can 12/2 wire the second switch to the lights if that is better than going from the dimmer 1st switch
