So we had our AC shut off on us earlier this week, noticed part of the outdoor unit had ice on it - got a technician out who told us the evaporator coils of the indoor unit likely need cleaning. Well, we'd like to avoid paying $350 if possible, so I looked up how to diy clean it with the self-rinsing foam cleaner (cool!) and I think even if severely dirty on the inside of the A-frame, if that's what we have, we can potentially take a steamer to it or get some of the heavy duty green chemical with a hand-sprayer...also cool.
Problem is, when I looked at the unit...it's sealed up all funky, almost as if it's plastered over...what the heck?! I didn't see anything like this in any photos of units I've found online. Yet no technicians have said anything about it being crazy.
I'm guessing we will have to cut into it somehow, to get the evap coil panel open? How should we proceed? And then, how should we seal it back up - the standard metal tape stuff?
Can anyone shed some light on this?:
:vs_worry:
Thank you!
