I have a broken pane and a broken sash cord on the upper of my 140 year old double hung windows. So it is time to dig in.
but I am a bit stumped by removing that upper window to the inside.
I see that I have to remove the rectangular wooden bead/guide that is slotted in between the two windows.
But there is a lip on the lower edge of the upper window frame that blocks the simple removal of the bead. I can't just yank it all the way out.
Whenever I get to a stalemate like this, I know that if I force it, I'll break something. So I ask for advice.
Is there a trick I am missing?
