Unsure how to hang curtain rods based on type of wall.

Go to time 7:47 and see the rough framing around the opening. I am assuming you have a drywall. Just knocking on it is not conclusive. Your opening edges look like they were finished with drywall corner bead, and that's why I think you have a drywall. It's usually half inch drywall then the framing underneath. About 1.25" away from the edge, and on the top part of the opening, drill 1/16 hole and feel for resistance. If wood, you will drill deeper. If concrete, you will be stopped. Have a vice grip handy if you break the drill bit.
